We believe that education must be experiential, must nurture interdependence, and must enable all members of each generation to develop the judgment necessary to take responsibility for: the conduct of their lives, the shaping of their societies, and their participation in global issues.

The next step is to create these systems in more structured ways through more than just one kind of space: a museum, a gallery, a school, but something that reflects the interdependence of the content: a center of arts, of farming and permaculture, of education and research, and of sustainability, so we can create more and more avenues that allow us to become restorers of healthy systems on earth, rather than victims of corrupted ones.

About the School

At the ANO School for Regenerative Learning, we believe that education must nurture interdependence and must enable all members of each generation to develop the judgment necessary to take responsibility for: the conduct of their lives, the shaping of their societies and environment, and their participation in global issues. Thus, we follow an experiential, localized, interdisciplinary, and collaborative approach to learning rooted in our core values.

  • Experiential: We prioritize learning that promotes the integration of knowledge, practice, and thoughtful contemplation. We believe that students learn best when they are given the opportunity to engage in independent inquiry and discovery, which is why we encourage them to generate their own questions and design innovative solutions.

  • Localized: Situated within the lush mountains of Aburi, Ghana, our school provides students with the opportunity to acknowledge the land as one of our first teachers. The school shares space with a food forest which will be a principal site of localized learning for students. Students will learn how to grow their own food and become responsible stewards of their local environments.

  • Interdisciplinary: Our educational philosophy emphasizes the importance of creative thinking and problem-solving, and our approach inspires students to think beyond traditional boundaries to explore new ideas and perspectives. We honor and preserve the knowledge systems and traditions of the local community, while also exposing students to broader knowledge paradigms to provide a holistic and culturally-responsive education.

  • Collaborative: We believe that mutual learning, where students engage with and learn from one another, is an essential component of a comprehensive education. We strive to cultivate collaboration among students through group activities, team-based projects, and collective initiatives.

  • Core Values: responsibility, integrity, compassion, sustainability, collaboration, inclusivity, justice, openness, harmony

Programming

Developing a K-12 school can be a lengthy process that requires significant planning, resources, and partnerships. In the meantime, ANO is committed to making a positive impact on the local community by providing a tier-based model for programming and service. This model seeks to engage community members of all ages and backgrounds by offering a diverse range of activities, workshops, and events. We aim to build strong relationships with community members while also providing valuable educational and personal development opportunities for individuals of all ages.

  • Tier 1: online courses and modules

  • Tier 2: after-school programming, workshops, and local service activities

  • Tier 3: K-12 school launch

  • ANO Lab Research Centre: The ANO School will provide a dedicated research space for residential fellows who are active participants in the ANO Lab. The research conducted by these fellows will be integrated into the curriculum and institutional design of the school.
