The Sunsum Sessions

Projects / Labs / The Sunsum Sessions

From 17th February – 10th March 2018, ANO will launch a new initiative, The Sunsum Sessions, to celebrate Ghana’s Masters of Culture. The Sessions will invite audiences, both live and online, to partake in intimate interactions, as well as performances, exhibitions, screenings and readings; and to witness the soul, the sunsum, of Ghana’s creativity – past, present and future.

On 17th February, design and fashion will be explored through the legacy of couturier Kofi Ansah, musical style setter Azizaa, young architect Latifah Iddriss, science fiction writer and futurist Jonathan Dotse.

On 26th February, literature will be explored through the legacy of pioneer playwright Efua Sutherland, Ghana’s queen of literature Ama Ata Aidoo, dramatist Nana Akosua Hanson, and photographer Josephine Kuuire.

On 6th March, architecture will be explored through the meetings of the legacy of architect Alero Olympio, world-renowned architect Sir David Adjaye, veteran designer and former Drum covergirl Ophelia Akiwumi, the architecture of food in chef Selassie Atadika’s work, as well as in musician Nii Noi Nortey’s architectural jazz structures.

On 10th March, music will be explored through the interactions of the little-explored legacy of one of the few known female highlife greats Charlotte Dada, the reigning highlife legend Koo Nimo, the prince of highlife Kyekyeku, as well as through the work of filmmaker Anita Afonu, and writer Eli Tetteh.
